Award-winning Scots brewer runs into trouble
Scots brewer Arran Brewing Company has called in the administrators
after running into cashflow problems.
Graham Martin and Laurie Manson of PricewaterhouseCoopers were
appointed as joint administrators to the company yesterday.
The brewer, which has been trading since 2000, produces dark, blonde
and other beer from its custom-built microbrewery in Cladoch, near
Brodick, on the Isle of Arran. The company employs 11 people and has
an annual turnover of around =A31m.
The administrators said the company's cashflow problems had been
caused by "operational difficulties in getting the product to market
in sufficient volumes".
Martin said: =93The beer produced by the Arran Brewery Company has been
very well received in its markets and has already won several awards.
"We expect interest from parties who will have the ability to take the
business to the next stage of its development in continuing to expand
its brand presence and its channel to market.
=93The business will be of interest to an existing brewer seeking to add
brands to its ****tfolio or an individual seeking to take advantage of
the lifestyle afforded by operating such a business on the island.=94
