Today Netherlands joins the non smoking countries with tabacoo outlawed but
not marijana, LOL
A quick scan round news items seems to indicate trade is down and all
those
people who said "I only dont use the pub because its smoky" havent taken
the place of the smokers because they didnt really like pubs much anyway
and had no intention of flocking to the clean air pubs.
It seems pubs are responding by an accelerated switch into being
restaurants. What's your experience?
Guardian
"The number of pints served in Britain's pubs and bars in the run-up to
the
busy festive period declined by almost 10% as chilly smokers, no longer
allowed a cigarette inside a pub, cut short their drinking time or stayed
at home.
In the first winter since the UK-wide ban on smoking in public places was
imposed in July, pub beer consumption for November fell 9.7% against the
same period in 2006, according to industry figures."
BBC
"The Scottish Licensed Trade Association surveyed 365 members and said
sales of alcohol appeared to have fallen by more than 10% since the ban
was
introduced.
Paul Waterson, the chief executive of the SLTA, said the effects of the
ban
were "bad enough" at the moment and there would be "worse to come".
independent
"Analysis of the impact of the smoking ban on pubs' takings in Scotland,
which banned smoking in March 2006, showed that beer volumes plummeted by
seven per cent in the following 12 months."
