(OT for food), Google Directory

Anybody know how to remove a website from "Google Directory".
I wish to do so as I believe that may be the cause of massive
decline in search results on my two sites. 

(1st or 2nd to nowhere I can find)

The site is still listed so its not a spider problem, it just
suddenly comes very very low on all except keywords used in
directory submission description, which is the basis of
suspecting I want to "pull it".
Ayone else share in my suspicion that Directory entry screws your
position?
(Any other suggested reasons also welcome)
