So, I eventually got around to beating this game. I started a new file, and
beat Birdie (Birdo?), where I found the secret. On the FIRST LEVEL, beat
Bird..thing and get the orb. Jump above the Hawkmouth and power jump to
the
off-screen cliff. Follow that to the other end where the shortcut door is.
Go through. Go right back out, and go back to Bird...stuff. Now land where
you would to face her. Make sure your volume is up.
