Doc's Mind-Reader Works!

by "DeepThought" <deep_42_thought@[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Jul 14, 2003 at 04:05 PM

So, anyone who has seen Back to the Future (starring Michael J. Fox as
Marty
McFly) will understand this.

When Marty travels back in time to 1955, he goes to that time's Doc Brown.
Doc acts like a maniac, stopping Marty from saying a word, asking to read
his mind. He spouts nonsense, with the main points being: "you've come
from
a great distance" (which Marty agrees to), but also "you want me to buy a
subscription to the Saturday Evening Post" and "you want me to make a
donation to the coast guard youth auxiliary". This is as far off from the
truth as possible, but I'd like to prove that Doc's machine does work.

Regarding the Post: As soon as Marty arrives in 1955, he finds a Newspaper
(the Saturday Evening Post) and sees the date 1955. This is obviously a
main
event in realizing he actually went back in time. So Doc accurately read
that memory. The donations to the coast guard struck two separate points:
donations, and the Coast Guard. While back in 1985, Marty and Jennifer are
interrupted by a woman asking for donations to save the clocktower. When
he
meets Lorraine in 1955, his mother asks him if he's from the coast guard.

As it turns out, Doc throws his machine to the side, thinking it useless.
But, as the evidence shows, the Time Machine *wasn't* the first invention
of
his that works.
