Just a thought.
A year or so back, in another group, a newbie poster scolded a
long-standing poster on repeating a quote at the end of every post -
something to the effect of 'it's cute the first time, but gets boring
after a while'. The newbie was objecting to the poster's sig line. The
backlash was sufficiently scathing that the newbie vanished and never
posted again in that group (unless maybe it was under a different name).
The point I guess is that from what I've observed, Paul may be as new to
Usenet as BBQ, and as such unfamiliar with thread drift. Nonny did have
the courtesy to change the subject line, which effectively makes it a
new thread, so Paul really had no call to complain, but seems not to
know that. My suggestion is, before relegating him to the Troll
category, or kill-filing him, perhaps we might direct him to look up
Newsgroup Netiquette (there are lots of sites worth checking) to get up
to speed.
YMMV but, until that rather explosive reaction, his posts seemed honest
and on-topic. A little on-line seasoning is all he seems to need, IMO.
Oh, and Paul, I do highly recommend reading up on thread drift before
you enter my other favorite group, which has made an absolute art of it
:-)
