Jerry, I use Outlook Express to handle my newsgroups through 
<groups.google.com>.  It keeps track of all messages read (non-bold type)
and 
unread (bold type).  To make the messages easier to read, Google up "OE 
Quote-fix" and install it; make a desktop or task-bar icon of OE with
Quote-fix 
installed, and use that to start OE every time.  Works great!  I have had
no 
spam as a result of using Google Groups.
