Double Chocolate Cookies

12 ounces chocolate chips
1 cup shortening
3/4 cup sugar
3/4 cup firmly packed brown sugar
3 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 1/2 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup walnuts -- chopped
Melt 1 cup chocolate chips over hot (not boiling) water. Cool.
Cream together well the shortening, sugar, eggs, melted chocolate and
vanilla 1 minute at medium speed.
Add sifted dry ingredients and mix until blended.
Stir in nuts and remaining chocolate chips.
Drop by teaspoon onto ungreased cookie sheet.
Bake 12-15 minutes at 350 degrees.
