Well week six is completed, all two days of school that is! On the
home front It was being boiled, fried or baked, depending on what I
was doing and where I was in the apartment!. The thermostat on the
floorboard heater went coo-coo and kept pu****ng heat into the
apartment so studying didn't get done the brains were fried. Its
good that they finally got it fixed for I was just assigned a research
paper in Art Survey on Titian's Bacchanal' I have to define the piece,
give the patron of the artist, what was the idea behind the piece,
what it stands for, what it looks like, and finally how does it fit
into the world today. Have three weeks and its to be 1300 to 1500
words double spaced. Going to be fun! I actually enjoy getting my
teeth into a project like this but this instructor whats 8 key phrases
dealing with the piece itself included and that may the hitch in the
paper but am already readying to dive into the net and start
researching and then writing. My text has a few but not all that I
need and spelling counts as well as proper usage.
On the being baked alive situation saw the landlord just now, have
overpaid rent by $9 and he said that the motor that controlled the
heater's thermostat went and died and has been replaced so that I
should be able to set the heat with my apartment thermostat properly
again; it only reads five degrees above what it is but its been that
way since it was put in that is workable around. Since I've been here
he has replaced the gasket on that motor, gave me a new room
thermostat, that one was replaced in all the apartments when they
replaced the heating system in the YMCA, and now a replacement motor
in the heater itself that controls the heater's thermostat! Gee I
seem to be star-crossed with regards to heat! So I upped it to 70
from the 55 I found it at when I came home from school last night for
I was afraid to mess with it.
Back to school stuff now! Ceramics 2 that project that kept giving me
fits finally got finished and is set to dry on the counter in the back
of the room for it is to tall to fit on my shelf; its over 12 inches
and the shelves are ten inches apart. The next project was to do a
hanging body part, wall hangable that is, for those of us with minds,
like mine, in the gutter. the instructor stated it as hangable the
first time and the entire class, myself included, looked at her with
wide eyes and started laughing and she turned red, half the class is
male, its small there are only eight of us, and she rephrased it to
wall hangable. Any how I have know people who's children were born
pigeon-toed, feet turned inward, and the doctors used a metal spreader
between the feet to correct the problem so that is what I did; an
abstract pair of feet and legs with a spreader the the bottom of the
baby's diapered bottom. the first one the instructor looked at and
said I can see it but make it larger so I did! It is sitting on my
shelf and drying.
Ceramics one we had to build a slab house that will eventually be
combined with all the others into a village, I am the only one in the
class who is aware of that for it was told to the ceramics 2 class by
the instructor. I and slab work do not get along; I can do it but
find no creativity in it so I did what I could and entitled it "hovel"
or shack! The girl working next to me has a gorgeous three storied
star-shaped building with a cupola! I looked at that in sheer
amazement for that is the kind of thing that is totally beyond my
capabilities and Pam chuckled and told me that she can't see how I
abstract and hand build with coils and pinch pot techniques as I do.
So each of us has our own talents and areas of creativity and I am
reminded of a reading for my morning meditation that tells me we are
all creative in our own ways.
Health Sciences we were talking ab out the five kinds of love and I
named the ones I was taught a long time ago and was wrong, same kinds
of love different names so I have to study and relearn them for the
test on Monday.
Mid term grades will be out next Wednesday and I will then have a
better gauge of how I am doing!
