LOL, it was a short week this week and next week will be as short! I
started winter break Wednesday and it ends Tuesday! So have been
sleeping in and relaxing. However did get some schoolwork done!
Monday we had a"motivational" speaker in the Health class. He walked
in and I said I know you from somewhere and yet we had never met. The
speaker had held the World's Strongest Man from 1973 to 1980 and was
also an contestant in several Olympics as the heavy weight contestant
for the US in free weights which is where I recognized him from. He
is from Brockton NY which is about 40 minutes from here. So he is a
"hometown" boy and he is the head of the y\Youth Program for
Chautauqua County. He talked about what it was like and shared what
he does for a living; quite good and interesting. He was giving out
signed photographs and a brochure and I grabbed one and asked if he
would sign one for my friend Troy who was born around here , though
raised partially in Florida, he did and I surprised Troy with them.
He was ecstatic for he used to do free weights when in the AF and
misses them.
Tuesday I walked into the first ceramics class, the advanced one, and
the piece I've been working on collapsed yet again, well didn't
collapse but wasn't doing what I wanted so I collapsed it and started
again. That fourth attempt decided it was going to sag, wet clay does
stuff like that ya know, and I got PO'd at it and squished it all
together, and squeezed so it got about nine inches high, poked my
finger through it in several places and distorted ti so that is
curved. Started hanging blossoms on it that were made using a pinch
pot method and the instructor or loved it and its working! She also
wanted to know how I did the blossoms so I showed her for I can not
verbally describe what I do but I sure can demonstrate it. So its
well covered and set to semi-dry with a wet sponge sitting besides it
so it won't go beyond "leather hard". Leather hard is where its hard
to the touch but still damp and somewhat malleable so that I can
finish it on Thursday. The Beginning class we are build a house out
of slabs and because I am in the advanced class I know what the entire
project is for the instructor told us what she had planned but am
keeping my mouth shut. That is one of the things the program has
taught me how to keep quiet when needed.
So that it for this week, talk at you next week. And yes I took two
Kathy Days this week.
