Weekly Diary fourth Semester #4

by Kathy <kasia@[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Feb 11, 2005 at 03:20 PM

Good day all, am late with this week because had a Doctor's
appointment to keep. Just a normal follow up to make sure medication
is working right for the spastic bladder I inherited. That's one of
the things about getting older, the system begins to wear out! And
then we have to go and take it in to be repaired or helped.

Got into class on Monday, took the test , quiz, and listened to a few
more re****ts and had the instructor ask if the crap that hit me last
Wednesday was totally out of the system. Then she told us that there
would be no class Wednesday, it was Ash Wednesday. and that she would
see us Monday. Then assigned us a role play for the 15th, which I
will have to do the 23rd for I will be at a doctors in Williamsville,
its a 2 hour drive one way, at 2 and she said she could understand
that there was no way I could make it back in time for class. It was
scheduled six months ago. Normal Glaucoma check-up but a necessity to
keep so I can keep what little eyesight I have left. The Role-play I
have assigned is passive-aggressive and that one is definitely me when
I was still out there practicing my addictions! So I will be able to
role-play it well.

Tuesday, attended the Art Survey and had the instructor inform me "you
know I could still fail you", when I told him I had made the change to
Pass/Fail for credit! Its ok we are in the area of the arts I know
well and am staying active in the class. Went in sick and then
managed to survive through the next two cl*****! Ceramics 2 I
continued to work on the next project and had the first attempt go
kablooey so started over again. Set it to dry and figured I work some
more on it on Thursday. Ceramics one started on a fourth coil bowl
and had the instructor talking to us about the Kiln Club. I joined
it. They do field trips, one is planned for april to the Senior
Ceramics Show at Alfred University in April and we agreed to donate a
piece for sell at the student art show for JCC to raise funds for
Tsunami relief/ I donate3d the third piece I had worked on that she
called, and I will be naming, Sensuous. We also started loading the
kiln for the first firing. Every completed piece I had that was ready
made it into the firing. And the instructor was raving over the pinch
pot that I beat the hell out of first by paddling with a wooden spoon
and then taking the meat mallet that I don't use. I took it in to use
there, to it both for its lovely "organic" textures and for showing
what could be done with clay.

Wednesday no class so stayed home and worked on odds and ends and got
the Watkins orders that I had to be delivered ready for delivery. I
delivered all but one Wednesday night. The last one made it out
today.

Yesterday, I listened and entered into the discussion we had in Art
Survey about the High Renascence and today. About how that period and
today are extrememly alike. Cermaics two, collapsed the second
attempt at the Merging project, and started on the third attempt.
This one is not coming easily. Have a good idea of what I want but
its not flowing. Creativity is there but the physical coordination is
not. We also critiqued our first assignment for the class. Mine are
in the kiln so they could not be viewed but I had to talk about them
and wht they meant and why I choose to do them. I am not good about
talking about myslf. But I tried. The instructor commented that the
"bone" hat I made was one of the most effective pieces she has ever
seen becasue of its very textured and rough qualities. One of the
other students had an absolutely gorgeous clay pitcher/ewer with deep
carved designs including a Wiccan symbol. She was crying as she
talked abut it. Had the instructor explain what she couldn't. It was
a mate to one she had made in Advanced Artistics as a senoir in high
school where the instructor called it evil because of the WIccan
Symbol. The instructor refused to grade it and started harrasing her.
Finally they got the principal of the school to grade it.
Unfortunately that instructor is still teaching. However the post is
avsolutely lovely, well formed and the symols enhance it and do not
detract. Cermaics one the instructor gave me permission to elave if I
wished for they were still working on the coil pots for the critique
on Tuesday and I was well ahead of the others. Three pots made and so
I headed home.

Blad I got home early for I found a message about the gliding rocker
that was supposed to be piced up that they would be running late
because of the snow and another that the arrangements made for the
pick up of the misplaced mail that landed up in my box would be done
later that evening.

So all in all its been a good week.

Kathy G.
