Weekly Duiiary Sester 4 #1

by Kathy <kasia@[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Jan 21, 2005 at 05:46 PM

Yep, I'm back to school again! Its going to be interesting and a
fairly easy semester this time. Thank God! I need the break! Still
have Art Survey with its essays but have switched that grade to
Pass/Fail for credit with the instructor's permission and suggestion
both! Should have done that last semester but forgot about that
option and eked out a D and he told me he did not give me a break but
that my class participation earned me the grade! Whew glad that I
enjoy reading and had down a lot of it for it game me knowledge that
most of the other students didn't have. And to make things even more
fun I am doing both Ceramics 1 and 2, the three credit one, at the
same time and that was at the instructor's request after she told me
last semester that I needed to do 1 before 2! LOL!!!!!. The other art
class is Computer Graphics 2 with Desktop Publi****ng! the one non art
class if Health Science which is a glorified Health course! Which we
are given extra credit for any health re****t that we find and do a
write up on up to five of them! That will be a piece of cake, I
think! Yah, I know think and actuality aren't the same!

Ok the week went like this, Monday no school, it was a Federal
Holiday, Martin Luther King's Birthday. and we received 13 inches of
snow! Tuesday I started out with three cl***** and ended up with
four! The Art Survey is an 8:30 am class and it is dark until about
&:30 am right now up here and I leave at 7:45 am for school! Got in
and talked with he instructor after the class and he told me "I did
not give you any breaks; your class participation moved you over the
edge for the D" when I thanked him for it. He then agreed that it
would be best, in fact suggested it, that I use the Pass/Fail for
credit option this semester so I don't have to worry about eking out a
grade to pass the class. Its a highly visual class with a lot of
slides and the slides are used for the tests also, you have to name
them, locate them, what era they are from, etc and guess what I can't
see the damned things and they are 40 to 50 percent of the test! So
stopped at the registrar's office and picked up the form that I needed
to fill out and sign to get that done. Had a five hour break before
the Ceramic's 1 class. One of my gifts to me was a meal card for the
cafeteria, it costs $22.50 but gives $25 worth of any food item the
cafeteria sells. With doing 13 hour days Tuesday and Thursdays and
usually broke the second half of the month it will be a practical
solution to the feeding me problem. So took a nap in the Student
Union, picked up my books, ate lunch and headed to class. The
instructor had us describe out Ceramics background and when I finished
she looked at me and said "you belong in the three credit Ceramics 2
that starts at 11:30 and that we are trying to keep from closing! The
conversations went like this:

Me: "You told me last semester when I talked to you about it I
needed to do Ceramic's 1 first.:

Helene, the instructor: "I didn't realize you had college ceramics: I
was wrong."

Me: Can I stay in the Ceramics 1 if they allow it for I could use the
refresher for I haven't had the basics since 79, the instructor in
Illinois didn't teach them!"

Helene: "Sure"

So I hightailed it off to the Registers Office again , registered for
the Ceramic's 2 and found I could keep the Ceramic's 1 and was given a
message to take back to Helene: :The Register told me to tell you
that I am nine and you have room for 11 more. Well Thursday, we
acquired two more so the class is a go!!!!!

Wednesday Off to the Health class which is at 4 pm, it is my only M/W
class. Got there took the quiz that the state requires to be given
and was dismissed from class at 5 pm. Is the only one that will be
over before 5:45 pm. So I called the cab and they lost me! Didn't
forget me LOST ME! LOL! The Dispatcher had a "senior moment" and
sent the cab to where they picked me up last semester and of course I
wasn't there! I called back and got told I wasn't there, and when I
asked where the cab went found out the problem and asked him to send
it to where I was! Well he sent it to the front of the building and
luckily the maintance chief say it pull up, came and told me, he had
seen me get caught in every fire drill they had last semester in every
building I was in and knew me by sight. I sent him back and told him
to tell the cabbie I was on my way. When I got to the door he had had
the cab pull right up to the door, the sidewalk coming into the front
entrance of that building is wide enough to take the cab and its fifty
foot from the parking lot! So I got home and got on the phone with
the dispatcher and hopefully they will know where to get me on Monday
after I get out of class.

Thursday, actually went well. No problems! I spent Ceramics 2
revitalizing a some clay that need some extra moisture to be fully
pliable. It was somewhat stiff but still moldable. The instructor
was teaching how to make clay from scratch. Clay in its natural form
comes in sheets and separate and mold, natural, is in ti to keep it
from separating when used to create something. So rather that having
me tipping into the slop bucket, old clay that was being recycled into
new, she had me revitalizing some that hadn't been used and had gotten
slightly hard. Ceramic's ! we did our first assignment! Pinch pots!
We had to make five of them that were acceptable to the instructor.
One of which was with our eyes closed! LOL!!! That was funny! I
don't need to close my eyes to work by ouch, I already do! So I now
have five acceptable pinch pots sitting on the shelf drying; and the
12L5 of stiff clay that I remoisturized the class before is sitting
there waiting for me to use the next few cl*****! The instructor
asked what we wanted to do in the second Ceramic's 2 before starting
the making clay section and I was honest that my coordination,
eye-hand, and physical do not always agree with what I see in my mind!
But when they do I come up with some really great pieces! Those of
you who were at the last NB Reunion saw one of them; the White
Knuckled Sobriety I brought to the silent auction. I was told then we
will enjoy watching what you manage to come up with! Thank God I
don't have to use the potter's wheel at all for I can not use it!

Well, now its lets get this off to all of you and get to the doctor's
and get the new prescriptions that I need so I can keep taking my meds
for the osteo****osis and glaucoma and keep what little sight I have
and continue to improve on the mobility so that I can, hopefully,
eventually stop using the four-wheeled walker.
