Bisquick is a packaged "all-purpose" baking mix: Flour, salt, baking
powder, shortening, and I think a little sugar. Add milk and mix.
It's not a bad product, really, but you can better in a couple of
minutes from scratch. The only thing it really saves is the time to
incor****ate the shortening into the flour. And, if you bake rarely, you
can have a box of it on the shelf or in the fridge and not keep all the
other ingredients around...
It does make a decent drop biscuit, scone, dumpling, or "magic crust"
pie or quiche.
Also, relating to John Andrews' question, Bisquick comes in Buttermilk
version, with I suppose, dry buttermilk powder in the mix.
