Liquid Levain - instructions go foul!

Here we go again!
I get to the last part of the instructions on page 80 of Local Breads,
by Leader.

It says "Refresh the culture."
"Measure 1/4 cup of your culture into a clean 1-quart container and
discard the rest.  Pour in the water ....

WHAT WATER?  HOW MUCH WATER?
I feel like Sam Kennison --

Not only there, but he does it AGAIN! and AGAIN! on the same page
under:
"Maintain the Levain"
and
"Prepare the Levain for Baking."

Wondering if Barry have these on a page where an amount of water has
been decided upon.
