Try pecans rather than raisins. The bananas (which should be overripe,
drawing fruit flies already) add plenty of sweetness. The nuts add
crunch and a little depth to the flavor. Raisins, not so much.
Shortening generally means hydrogenated vegetable shortening such as
[US] Crisco.
