Touche!!  But that was a carryover from his first book, "Bread Alone," 
which was literally a mathematical programming exercise:

Maximize: number of pages
Minimize: content

Subject to: Reader nausea < violent

Or, an alternative formulation:

Maximize:  Number of pages

Subject to:

Content at hand <= what they had 
Reader nausea < violent

Never thought I'd use this stuff taling about baking bread.  Danzig 
moves in strange ways.
